Progress Chapter – Centenary Celebration

Friday 18^th October 2013 Progress Chapter No.1768 met at the Sutton Masonic Hall to celebrate One Hundred years of continuous working since the Consecration Ceremony of Wednesday 28^th May 1913, which also took place at Sutton.

The Companions were delighted to welcome the Deputy Grand Superintendent, E. Comp. Alan Bayliss, together with the Third Provincial Grand Principal E.Comp. Colin Jones, accompanied by seven Active Provincial Officers.

Both the Chapter Convocation and the Celebration Dinner were held in the larger Temple and Dining room, as we were fortunate to have an attendance of 46 members and guests.

The Ceremony in the Temple was conducted by our four most senior Companions, who had been specially appointed for the occasion.   In the Principals’ Chairs were  E.Companions Edward Smith, Bryan Page, Terence Cooke, with E.Companion Eric Trodd as Director of Ceremonies.

E.Comp. Ted Smith, who had celebrated his 88^th birthday the previous day, gave his most interesting narrative based on the History of the Chapter which had been written by our Scribe E., E Comp. James Kirkbride: Progress Chapter Narrative – E.Comp E. Smith

After the Convocation the Companions sat down to a mouth- watering Festive Board of Smoked Mackerel on a Potato and Horseradish Salad, followed by Braised Venison Steak with cranberries, smoked bacon and seasonal vegetables, Pana Cotta with Poached strawberries, and a Luxury cheese board, ending in tea and coffee.
